I am not so particular about sheet sets, but Carnival's were nice. If I wanted to cut corners I would probably just get the duvet cover, the down comforter to go in it and the pillows, and then get less expensive sheets and shams. If you want an incredible night's sleep on your vacation -- and the inside scoop on how to bring cruise-style slumber into your own home -- read on to discover which cruise ship beds are the best at sea.
Cloud 9 Spa Interior Rooms
It may be the lifeboats, or in the case of Interior cabins with a window, it may be the walkway around the edge of the ship. The smaller Interior rooms don’t leave you a lot of floor space with a twin or double bed in there, but they are some of the cheapest you can book on a modern cruise line. If you have health or mobility challenges, Carnival proudly welcomes you on board.
Interior Upper/Lower Rooms
They’re about the same size as a Balcony cabin, but without the Balcony attached. They’re only available on Mardi Gras, and give you extra floor space compared to a regular Interior. Porthole cabins are available on almost all Carnival ships – the exceptions are Spirit Class ships (Carnival Spirit, Carnival Miracle, Carnival Legend and Carnival Pride) and the newer Excel Class. The view you get is pretty limited, especially as the portholes are quite thick – you don’t get a good viewing angle.
Other Items
Some Cloud 9 Spa Interior rooms do actually have a fairly large window. This doesn’t look out over the ocean though, it overlooks a walkway, but if you want some natural light in your room then be sure to look out for these on the deckplans. These perks only apply to the first two guests in a Cloud 9 Spa room though, so if you’ve booked a room with three adults then someone has to miss out. The Thermal Suites include dry heat chambers, steam chambers and a hydrotherapy pool, which you can use at any time during the cruise. If you aren’t too bothered about having a view but would like a little more room to move than in a smaller Interior, then a Premium Interior is a good middle ground. You’ll still save money compared to a Balcony but you’ll feel less cramped.
Cruise Tips That Feel Wrong (But Are 100% Right)
Some standard cruise ship cabins can only sleep two, but many can sleep three, four or five passengers. Extra berths are either pullout sofas, bunkbeds that pull down from the wall or drop from the ceiling or rollaway cots. In addition, special family cabins or multi-room suites intended for large groups traveling together can have multiple bedrooms and sleep six or more passengers. Like the mattress and frame, expect the bedding, sheets, and pillows to be commercial grade.

Cruise ships offer an exceptionally restful night's sleep, and it's not just the waves rocking you back and forth that does it. Many cruise lines have chosen to make a significant investment in the mattresses and bedding found in their cruise ship cabins. From pillow menus and branded partnerships to exclusive mattress materials, cruise lines take sleep seriously.

When you’re on a Carnival cruise, you have your choice of stateroom styles and locations designated as Interior, Ocean View, Balcony or Suite. So how do you select the best stateroom to ensure you’ll have a relaxing, comfortable cruise?
But I like my pillows fluffy and Carnival's are in constant use and don't show any kind of flattening out. I had the synthetic pillows onboard and found them to be so good that I (as a down/feather pillow lover) could hardly tell the difference. They fluff up and have a weight similar to a very high quality down pillow and I even thought for a little while that maybe they had slipped the wrong pillows in on me... In fact, the Mardi Gras doesn’t have any Interior rooms with an obstructed view at all.

It could also depend on whether you’re cruising solo, plus-one, with the family or as a group. The first thing to keep in mind is that different cruise lines will have different bedding available, so exactly what you sleep on may differ from what’s shown here. However, in our experience the major cruise lines seems to have similar beds and sheets. The bed featured in this article was aboard a recent cruise with Carnival. Pocketed spring construction ensures less disturbance from one's sleeping partner, and the whole ensemble is enshrouded with European-style duvets and Jacquard-woven cotton linens. Not only can you enjoy the Carnival Comfort bed onboard, it's also one you can purchase for your own home.
On most other cruise ships these would be classed as Ocean View, but Carnival classes any room with small portholes and Interior. An Interior Upper/Lower stateroom (category 1A) is one of the smallest rooms you can book at sea that isn’t a single cabin. It has a single twin bed and then either a Pullman bed or a sofa bed for the second guest. An Interior stateroom on a cruise ship is one that is normally located on the inside of a ship away from the sides and does not have any windows. They’re normally the cheapest and smallest rooms on board and can sleep anywhere from 2 to 5 guests, depending on the cruise line.
Princess enlisted the help of Dr. Michael Breus, a board-certified sleep expert, and HGTV design personality Candice Olson to create the ultimate bed to catch the eye and comfort the body. From the pillows to the box spring, each of the 10 components of these beds was carefully constructed for maximum comfort. Plus, the fibers used are organic and sustainable, and the foam is naturally derived. If you are particularly sensitive to down, most cruise lines will have an alternative, with cotton, polyester or cotton-poly blend blankets, pillows and sheets. Keep in mind that some staterooms and features are exclusive to specific ships, so be sure to check out the amenities on board the ship you choose. You’ll sleep well knowing you’ve chosen the right spot for snoozing while cruising. Every stateroom has amenities (including your dedicated room steward) that rival land-locked five-star hotels.
